Why is it so difficult to trim my kid’s nails?

I remember when my first son was a baby and had long fingernails, I like to wait until he fall asleep to trim their nails, because when he was awake he moved a lot and I was afraid to hurt him. With the others I learned to grab their hand or foot firmly without hurting them and very carefully trim their nails.

Then my oldest son grew up and instead of being easier to trim his nails it became harder. Now my oldest son did not want to stay still neither trim his nails. A good day the Ms. that was helping me to take care of my second child (about a month), taught me the trick of the jumping nails to be use it with my oldest son (at that time 20 months), the advise of the jumping nail worked great and I want share it with you.

The time to trim the nails change from being a time of struggle to a game. The game was to see if the nails jumped or not when we trim them, hence the name of jumping nails.  The nails that do not jump we put it aside. Today I find it funny at the end, when we finished my son looked at me and said about the nail we have been putting aside «Is a gift for you.»

Apparently it was always easy to trim their nails, but as long as it is done in a fun way. Currently trim their nails is very easily, they lying on the couch and I do the full manicure. The next step is that they  will trim their own nails.
